Bearin' Down in Week One

Sep 12, 2011 -- 10:42am

Well that was a bit surprising…expectations varied about the Bears this season, but i think its safe to say no one was calling for a 30-12 rout of the Falcons in week one.  So how’d Chicago do it?

First and foremost, the defense.  Yes, brian urlacher had a great game and reminded us why he is still one of the best linebackers in football, but it was the front four the made the difference…peppers, adams, melton and idonije reaked havoc on the falcons offense all day.  If chicago can rush four and get that kind of pressure, they will be a playoff team.

Next, Jay Cutler got off to a great start…22-32 for 312 yards, 2 touchdowns and a pick.  Cutler looked comfortable, and most importantly, seemed to be on the same page as his receivers.  I still want more out of the run game, and i still want to see this offense line improve, but i think they are going the right way.

This week, an even tougher test with the explosive offense of New Orleans Saints  Chicago will have to pressure Brees if they're going to take down the Saints.

bears, falcons, week
