BELOIT, WI - Matt Olson scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Beloit Snappers a 6-5 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday evening in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field in front of a crowd of 184 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game of the twin bill was postponed due to rain.

Beloit's third victory in a row now has them at 17-13 so far in 2013. Peoria takes a tough loss to drop to .500 at 14-14.

Olson had put himself in scoring position in the inning by hammering a one out double off the left field wall against pitcher Joe Scanio (1-1). Consecutive wild pitches by Scanio then allowed Olson to tally the winning run. A scoreless top of the eighth allowed Stu Pudenz (1-1) to grab the victory.

The rally that got the game into extras started with one out in the seventh and the Snappers behind 5-3. John Wooten singled, Chad Lewis (2-3, 2 RBI, run) doubled and pinch-hitter Bruce Maxwell drove in one run with another single. Brett Vertigan followed with a fly ball to left that was misplayed into an error, allowing the tying run to score.

The evening's scoring began when each team grabbed a run in the second on solo homers, the Chiefs thanks to Patrick Wisdom's seventh, the Snappers on Rashun Dixon's (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 runs) third in three games.

Peoria benefitted from wildness by starter Austin House in the third and were able to score twice. After a walk and a fielder's choice, three wild pitches brought Breyvic Valera in to score. Jordan Walton made the score 3-1 later in the frame with an RBI single. Walton added another RBI single in fifth to put his team ahead by three.

Beloit started their comeback in the fifth, closing to within one run on a two-run double by Lewis. A run-scoring triple by Charlie Tilson in the top of the seventh provided the Chiefs with an insurance run, but the Snappers wouldn't go away.
